  • Soundbite (Brigadier General Adnan Al-Kanani – Security specialist and military expert):

“There are some ISIS bases in these governorates that are being made use of with the weather fluctuations and sand storms that have facilitated ISIS movements in breaching Kirkuk and other areas such Al Anbar and Saladin. ISIS is attempting to revitalize its forces. There was also a breach in Tarmiyah district, which was a crime more than a mere breach but whether it was a criminal or terrorist offense is still unclear.”

  • Soundbite (Bassam Al-Qazwini – Security specialist):

“Any act ISIS commits on Iraqi soil, they get paid a sum of money for it. There also entities supporting the Islamic state that ISIS considers the ultimate achievement for extremist groups. Iraqi security forces might be affected by the political situation of forming a new government. The political conflict and weather conditions align to create the perfect opportunity for ISIS to strike at a time of false security.”
