Storyline:

The Media Freedom Status Index in Jordan issued by The Middle East Media and Policy Studies Institute (MEMPSI) reported in the presence of editors in chief and media institute directors that media and press freedom in Jordan are within the context of relative freedom, which is a satisfactory result. The index showed that the media press in Jordan has increased significantly reaching 67.5%, which lies within the range of most free between 59.7% and 79.8%. The ranking is a result of not closing down press and media institutes and other factors. Chairman of the Board of Directors Mohammed Fakhri Al Ajlouni stated that The Middle East Media and Policy Studies Institute (MEMPSI) issued this report to emphasize that the results reflect reality as reported by researchers according to scientific basis and internationally recognized standards. This report is issued yearly by conducting studies that aim to portray the media and press freedom in Jordan, as well as identify affecting factors using a framework of 23 internationally recognized indicators that convey the reality of press and media freedom accurately and objectively.

Soundbite (Mohammed Fakhri Al Ajlouni – Chairman of the Board of Directors):

“Press and media freedom reports are issued by many entities. We decided to issue our own without financing from local or foreign parties because we have conviction that no external financing is without clear or ulterior motive. We are determined to produce a report that accurately reflects the reality of press and media freedom in Jordan.”

Soundbite (Salah Al Abbadi  – The Director of MEMPSI):

“The center operated through self-finance. There are no foreign financiers who might influence the outcome of the reports. Our center steers clear of external financing in order to produce honest, unrestrained and accurate reports.”
