Storyline:

PAKO – Protecting Animals in Kurdistan Organization, located in Sulaymaniyah, conducted awareness sessions in kindergartens and schools, themed “Pets Gives Children Positive Values”.

The Organization pointed out that the aim of visiting kindergartens and schools is to raise awareness among children about the animals’ rights to life, in addition to taking care of pets.

Taking care of animals has an impact on introverted and shy children. It gives the children an opportunity to initiate a conversation with others, teaches them not to abuse others, and generates empathy towards others.

“We in PAKO organization hold activities and events in addition to protecting animals. We visit schools and kindergartens, to spread awareness among children about animal rights and how to protect them and deal with animals. Most of the time we bring one of the animals in front of them so that they are not afraid.”

(SOUNDBITE) Rinas Mohammed – Principal of Bouar Kindergarten

“We asked the organization to visit the Kindergarten to teach children that animals have the right to live like humans and to have a place and food.  We taught them not to harm animals. It is important to conduct such sessions to children.”
