 (SOUNDBITE) Hiam Hussein – Engineer:

“Tarmoom House is characterized by that it combines all the architectural elements of the old buildings of Crater Aden city; including the geometric patterns found on the first floor and the wooden windows and balcony on the second floor. The Tarmoom House is a model of architectural elements.”

(SOUNDBITE) Nasser Abdul Razzaq – Engineer:

“Choosing Tarmoom House as an experiment was in coordination with the UNESCO Office and the Social Fund for Development, which is the implementing agency in partnership with the governmental bodies concerned with cultural heritage. There are many houses but in the beginning, citizens were reluctant and refused to work in their houses. But after this experience, now everyone hurried to request the restoration of their homes. Initially, we faced difficulty persuading the citizen to work in the restoration of the facades of their houses, everyone in the Crater Aden area asked to restore as much as possible of their historic houses.”
