Storyline
The widespread of electronic books and publications made the ancient library in Aden, southern Yemen, lack visitors, and books and manuscripts are left inside the library for days if not weeks without a reader or researcher pulling it.
The library is only visited by university students, whose assignments force them to visit the 3-story library, where some books in it are estimated to be more than 5 centuries old.
The library is also marginalized in the development of its electronic archive, which is still waiting for the promises made by organizations and government institutions that have gone unfulfilled for years.
The community activist, Abdullah Ali, says that the ancient library of Aden contains scientific and literary books and is used to attract intellectuals from Aden and different governorates in Yemen.
Ali called on the local authorities in Aden to reconsider this library, which plays its pioneering educational and enlightening role in the governorate.

(SOUNDBITE) Hussein Muhammad – Teacher:
“The National Library is very important because once it used to attract young people, now the youth is lost. Earlier the young people used to join a club a band, or the library to gain information. I hope that this National Library and other libraries are developed.”
(SOUNDBITE) Abdullah Ali – Community activist:
“This library is rich, comprehensive, cultural and scientific, containing scientific and literary theses issued by the University of Aden. It contains valuable scientific books. Earlier, it attracted young people, intellectuals, and educated people from Aden and different governorates. We call on the local authorities and the official government authorities to reconsider this library, which plays its pioneering, educational and enlightening role in the governorate and throughout the country.”
