“The event is important for us after a long wait. The last official match was against Bahrain 21 years ago. It is a great success. There were previous efforts before me but I was part of the work. We tried for previous years to lift the ban on our Iraqi stadiums in Basra, Erbil, and Karbala, and we got successful.”

“The heads of the Gulf federations supported us during our meeting held in Doha, in which two decisions were issued; to host the 25th Arabian Gulf Cup and to lift the ban on Iraqi stadiums. We were waiting for a long time, and when they asked us where to play with the Emirates, we answered in Baghdad. We were confident that it would be held in Baghdad as a result of the positive reports that accompanied the two matches that preceded this event.”
