Iraqi fashion designer Rana Sama’an achieved a great success in the fashion design business despite many obstacles and challenges facing the fashion industry in Iraq. Her story began when she designed her own dress when she was only 15 after she had learnt a lot about sewing with the help of her mother. Sama’an continued her success march by participating in fashion exhibitions in Iraq and abroad especially in the United States where she had received support from her husband.
The Iraqi designer is in Iraq now and has opened her own fashion house in Sulaymaniyah, where fashion now receives more popularity and passion.

District. I’ve had a great passion for fashion since I was a little girl. My mother who was a good tailor inspired and encouraged me further into fashion design and taught me some of the basics of tailoring and fashion designing. I designed my own dress when I was 15. I kept learning more and more about fashion and was able, with the support of my husband, to participate in various fashion exhibitions in Iraq and abroad. I also participated in a fashion exhibition in San Francisco in the United States, despite COVID-19. This has given me more momentum and pushed me to carry on in this industry despite all obstacles and challenges.’’
