Storyline
Basrah’s first equestrian club attracts many Iraqi men and women of all ages, three months after its construction. Club founder, Ali Waheed, said he charges trivial membership fees in order to encourage Iraqi youths to join equestrian activities. The club offers its members a 10-day indoor training, before they practice outdoors. Waheed said the trainees are equipped with special gear to ensure their safety.

- Soundbite (Ali Waheed – founder of Basra Equestrian Club):
“We established the Basrah Equestrian Club in December last year, as the city lacks one. We want to encourage young Iraqis to join equestrian activities. We do not seek profit as membership fees are trivial. The indoor training lasts for 10-12 days, during which participants learn about basics of equestrianism.”
- Soundbite (Abdul Karim Ali – coach):
“We teach participants to face their fear, and over horse riding challenges.”
- Soundbite ((Karar Haidar – Intern) :
“I have been passionate about horse riding since I was a child. When the club opened, I was excited and joined 10 days ago. Trainers are very helpful.”
