Iraq – Human rights compliance with international norms in Iraq: criticism and support

The High Commission for Human Rights in Iraq hosted a forum as the International Human Rights Day, on December 10th, is at the door. Member of the High Commission, Anas Al-Azzawi, emphasized that the country’s human rights situation is still away from the international standards and lacks the factors necessary for its success, owing to growing negativities in Iraqi society, such as rising rates of human trafficking, drug promotion, abuse, and domestic violence. Meanwhile, Major General Saad Maan, the Director-General of Relations and Information of the Ministry of Interior, pointed out that human rights in Iraq is developed and have become a culture that everyone is requesting with women leading the way in ascending to senior executive and legislative positions.
