Iraq – Iraq classified as one of five countries most affected by climate change
The Iraqi Minister of Environment, Jassem Abdul Aziz Al-Falahi, stated in a press conference on Iraq’s participation in the climate conference, which concluded its work in Glasgow, United Kingdom this week, that Iraq is classified as one of the five most vulnerable countries affected by the climate change, as a result of rising temperatures, decreasing water imports from upstream countries, an increase in the rate of desertification compared to green spaces, in addition to three percent annual population increase. According to devisers at the Ministry of Environment, Iraq will adhere to the climate summit, after announcing that it would reduce the percentage of heat emissions for the next ten years by investing in associated gas in oil fields, utilizing public transportation, and raising taxes on electric cars.
