Iraq – Divorce to Marriage Ratio Increase Monthly in Iraq
Iraq Supreme Judicial Council and women’s rights organizations official statistics indicates that divorce rates in Iraq are significantly increasing on monthly basis, reaching almost one third of officially registered marriages percentage. Numbers may be greater due to the undocumented marriage and divorce cases that occur outside courts and the statistics for these such cases are still vague: Women’s rights activists says, and according to specialists, “the peaks that divorce cases are reaching comes as a result of various repercussions in psychological, social, security and economic conditions, high unemployment, poverty, dysfunctional family and lack of awareness of marital life, as well as the use of the Internet and social network applications which played a negative and influential role in family stability and led to an increase in divorce cases.
