Iraq – International Conference on the Recovery of Stolen Funds to commence
The expanded international conference to recover the stolen funds is held in Baghdad with the participation of the Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi, the President of the Arab League Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the ministers of justice, and the heads of the judiciary councils and anti-corruption bodies of the Arab countries. During a press conference, the head of the Iraqi Integrity Commission, Alaa Al-Saadi, stated that obstacles are facing the commission’s work to collect these funds because of countries that embrace and protect the corrupt and invest those funds. He added that the conference aspires, through this broad participation, to establish a broad Arab and international front to retrieve smuggled financial assets and those convicted of corruption crimes.
