Iraq – “Hawker”, the most demanded type of fig in Sulaymaniyah
The fig harvest season starts at the beginning of August and continues until mid-September in the Kurdistan region of Iraq where farmers work to export it to all governorates of the country. The “Halabja” governorate and “Rania” district are known as the favorite hawker in the markets, due to their sweetness and resistance to the changes of nature. Its prices range between 1-1.5 US dollars per kg, and the Kurdistan region annually produces about 15-20 thousand tons of fig fruits.
