Iraq – Frequent power outages increase the troubles with high temperatures

The Iraqi capital, Baghdad, and the rest of the governorates are encountering a severe heatwave that crossed 50 Celsius during the long daylight hours of the summer, while it crosses 45 Celsius at night; however citizens perform their work daily despite the harsh weather conditions. Some say there should be an alternative to compensate citizens for living in this dry and tiring climate, but it doesn’t exist due to the absence of electric energy, which constitutes the main crisis in the country, pushing some families and the elderly to escape the summer stress by going out to cafes to get rid of the intense heat and to enjoy the inadequate atmosphere.
