Syria- Livestock Markets Boom Despite Soaring Prices
Ahead of Eid al-Adha, livestock markets in Qamishli are booming as many are purchasing animal sacrifices to mark Eid despite soaring prices. Merchants pointed out that demand is way higher than former years considering that many expatriates are transferring money to their families in the city to hold the Eid ritual of sacrificing an animal to then distribute the meat to the poor. High prices can also be attributed to the border crossing closure. Moreover, livestock breeders are sometimes forced to sell their cattle and sheep at cheap prices in order to afford to buy fodder
