Yemen: New Black Markets in Yemen Amid Soaring Prices of Bread
Amid abject poverty, starvation, and soaring prices millions of citizens are unable to put food on their tables as a loaf of bread hit a new price of 50 Yemeni Rials in Aden. This was accompanied by a salary cutoff, not to mention that numerous employees have lost their jobs. After authorities decided bread price cap of 30 Rials, the black market took advantage and started to sell bread at high prices. Bakeries attributed the dilemma to the soaring prices of wheat and petrol products. Furthermore, the World Food Program indicated that 13 million people are in dire need of food aid following the devastating war that ruined houses and depleted means of subsistence
