Syria- Poor Humanitarian Aid Exacerbates Displaced People’s Agony in North and East Syria
Amid dire humanitarian conditions, displaced people’s camps in North and East Syria suffer from an acute shortage of humanitarian aid delivered by the international organizations and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. Washokani camp alone houses 14828 displaced people from Ras al-Ayn and Tell Abiad including 2372 families, residing in 1829 tents. The camp’s administration illustrated that some families share the same tent given the limited number of tents. Families’ agony was exacerbated with the unbearable heat that reaches 40 degrees during the day, not to mention that no fans or water coolers are available. Such an environment was ideal for diseases as more children are getting sick by drinking contaminated water. Moreover, the camp’s administration indicated that 6 non-governmental organizations work in the camps with monthly contracts. They provide modest assistance that doesn’t meet the residents’ needs while the UN present no assistance, not to mention that it doesn’t even recognize these camps
