Syria – Strategic project launches to stop the spread of haphazard dumpsites
The northern and eastern areas in Syria have been suffering for several years from the spread of haphazard dumpsites that developed following the outbreak of the Syrian crisis, prompting the Municipalities and Environmental Protection Committee in the Democratic Autonomous Administration to launch a strategic project to collect and transfer waste to areas far from major cities, like Qamishli, Amouda, and Derek, due to the negative effects of burning waste and unpleasant odors that spread diseases in the area. The project cost around $700 thousand, with the assistance of international organizations working in the region, and the Municipal Committee decided to transfer the waste dump to an area near Al-Hawl town, eastern Al-Hasakah, within the framework of establishing a project in the future to benefit from waste, similar to many developed countries.
