Syria – Popular demonstrations in Idlib against the presidential elections

“No legitimacy for the elections” with this slogan, hundreds of people from the Syrian opposition-dominated areas gathered to send a message to the international community, as they described, that the elections conducted today in Damascus are against Security Council Resolution 2254, which stipulates holding elections under the supervision of the United Nations. The demonstrators voiced their rejection to the current President Bashar al-Assad re-run for a new term, while the Supreme Elections Committee in Damascus announced, on Wednesday, the beginning of the polling process for the presidential elections, which Assad’s opponents believe that it would grant him a new seven-year term.
