Investment companies continue deforestation in the Botum Sakor District, Koh Kong Province, and southwestern Cambodia, aiming to develop and establish development projects. Companies began to own vast lands in that area years ago and worked to remove large areas of forests, forcing a large number of villagers to leave their homes and lands which are their only source of livelihood, as villagers in those areas depend on its resources of the remaining forests to sustain their day.
