Iraq – Iranian dams cause Karamian significant losses in agricultural lands
The General Department of Agriculture in Karamian, Kurdistan Region, estimated the losses of crops in millions of dollars this year, due to the lack of rain and the drought of the dam tributaries, as more than 160,000 dunams of land were damaged and 700,000 herds of livestock that depend on fodder and grazing. Agricultural experts see that the decline in the region’s water level which depends on supplies from external tributaries to 70%, as a result of Iran’s construction of tens of dams and earthen pits within its borders, caused a shortage of the annual share of water in Karamian, causing farmers significant losses.
