Tunisia- Tunisian President’s Interpretations of the Constitution Flare up His Dispute with Ennahda Movement
Tunisian President Kais Saied’s statement sparked controversy in the parliament, in which he referred to himself as the general commander of the internal security forces, along with the army. Parliament Speaker and the head of the Ennahda Movement, Rached Ghannouchi found his speech an attempt to hold the reins of power and restore the authoritarian rule. Members of the Tunisian parliament believe that the spat between the Tunisian president and the Parliament speaker isn’t a secret. They underscored the necessity of resorting to dialogue to settle the dispute that would only exacerbate the country’s crisis
