Iraq: 12 Million Lives in Abject Poverty Following the Iraqi Currency Depreciation

Despite the fact that Iraq is the second-largest oil producer in the world, international studies have revealed that 12 million and 600 people- about 32% of the Iraqi population live under the poverty threshold. The Director of the Kurdistan Economic Development Organization, Hussam Al-Barzanji illustrated that the poverty rates are on the rise after scaling up the exchange rate of the US dollar. The inflation index increased as well by 4.9% to 5%, while the primary poverty indicators soared by 26-27%
