Syria: The Syriac Component Celebrates Akitu Holiday
In the Akitu spring festival that marks the first of April, the Syriac component of both the Assyrians and the Chaldean celebrate their new year. The celebration is held in high esteem among the Syriac nation. This year, it was held in Tal Al Shirian village in the countryside of Al-Qahtaniyah and was marked by high attendance of various political parties’ representatives and members of the civil community. During which, US Deputy Special Envoy for Syria, Mr. David Brownstein made a public speech. Akitu festival symbolizes renewal and it corresponds to the Nowruz Kurd’s festival in the north and the east of Syria
