Mongolia – The Kazakh minority celebrates Nowruz within the family due to Covid

Citizens of Kazakh ethnicity in Mongolia, who form 3.9% of its population, about 3 million and 250 thousand people, rejoice Nowruz, which occurs on March 21 every year. It represents the spring holiday and unity that has naturally become part of modern life while preserving traditions. Amid the imposed social distancing due to the Corona pandemic, the Kazakh minority, in the Nalaikh area, eastern the capital Ulaanbaatar, celebrated within the family in their homes, however, it used to be celebrated widely for 3 days, that included traditional art performances and sports competitions. In 2009, Nowruz was included in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, as more than 300 million people worldwide celebrate Nowruz,  and have celebrated it for thousands of years from the Balkans to the Black Sea Basin to Central Asia to the Middle East and elsewhere.
