Fishermen in Ong Kroav village, Prey Nob district, Prey Sihanouk Province, southwestern Cambodia suffer from grim living conditions after investment companies for coastal development prevented them from fishing on their dock, besides forcing them to depart their homes and accept a small financial compensation. Some of them chose to live under the bridge of their village to protect their fishing jobs, while others stated that investment companies started filling the area with sand and don’t allow them to approach the beach, pushing them to fish in deep areas even though they lack the capabilities to fish in those areas. They added that the development project affects their daily livelihood negatively, as the fishing area loses its environmental diversity.
