Iraq – Mines of Iran and ISIS create an environmental and agricultural problem in Iraq

Media Director of Department of Mines, Ministry of Environment, Muntaha Al-Jabri, assured that the southern governorate of Iraq have exposed to the pollution of mines due to the war with Iran, while ISIS contributed in spreading the pollution in the northern governorates. According to environmentalist, Iyad Abdul Mohsen, these mines cause an environmental danger to agricultural and industrial work. However, the UN described the process of mine removal in Iraq as the most difficult among the countries that have these objects. It is estimated that there are around 25 million random mines in different areas of the country and it takes almost 8 years to be removed”
