Cambodia – Construction workers face grim conditions for being unpaid by the companies

Local Construction workers who work for foreign companies in Phnom Penh, the capital city of Cambodia face grim conditions as they have been unpaid for months and the owners use Covid-19 as a justification for delaying the payments. NhoekPring, a Cambodian works for a construction company and earns decently to secure his family of 14 members, pay for his wife’s medicines in addition to repay a debt he owes to a private microfinance institution. President of Building and Wood Worker Trade Union Federation of Cambodia (BWTUC), Sok Kin, said that about 200000 construction workers in Cambodia don’t have health insurance and they face worse conditions than other sectors workers”
