Iraq: Experts: Iran-Backed Militias are Embarrassing Iraqi Diplomats by Targeting the Green Zone

Experts believe that Iran-backed militias have fired rockets at the Green Zone, where the US embassy and many other diplomatic missions and government offices are located, to retaliate following a statement by the Acting Secretary of Defense, Christopher Miller that US forces will partially withdraw from Iraq. It is well-known that all factions in Iraq are demanding to fully implement the parliament resolution of ending the presence of all foreign troops on Iraqi soil. Experts deem such attacks embarrassing to the Iraqi government and diplomats, not to mention that they destabilize Iraqi international ties. Such attacks have a chilling effect on the Iraqi people, as these factions are known for their unswerving support to Iran. It is worth mentioning that at least four Katyusha rockets have been fired at the US embassy in Baghdad’s heavily fortified Green Zone.  Sirens in the embassy were triggered since at least two rockets have landed near the embassy
