Jordan: Divergent Views Over the first Woman with Visual Impairment to Run for the Parliamentary Elections

Rawan Barakat’s decision to run for the parliamentary elections, due on Next November 2020, stirred controversy among people. Her decision was well received by many youths. However, others disliked the idea alleging that her visual impairment won’t allow her to assume her duties. Human rights activists attributed the ongoing bullying to the stereotype image of people with disabilities. They expressed their concern over this phenomenon that would permeate our society, indicating that people with disability retain the full right to run in the elections and in the decision-making process
