Iraq- Pressures and Attempts to Reign over the High Electoral Commission

The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mustafa al-Kadhimi, declared that early parliamentary general elections will be held on June 6, 202. The Prime Minister’s advisor for election affairs, Hussein Al–Hindawi, clarified that they are under internal and external pressure and that some political parties are exerting efforts to reign over the High Electoral Commission, in charge of supervising the voting process, which also is accused of being biased. Al–Hindawi called on the High Electoral Commission to resist any disputes and to withstand any pressures in order for the elections to be impartial. He added that Iraqi people will refuse any sham elections.
