Iraq – The French Foreign Minister calls for avoiding undervaluing the fight with ISIS

French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian joined a press conference on Thursday with his Iraqi counterpart in Baghdad, in which he stressed on the need to respect the sovereignty of Iraq and not to compromise in the face of ISIS, pointing to his country’s support for the Iraqi government in its fight against ISIS, for his part the Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein expressed his thankfulness to France for its role in fighting ISIS, stressing that the radical organization still exists and that joint action in the security and military fields must be made to eliminate it, adding that he discussed with Le Drian the status of ISIS prisoners and how to deal with them now and in the future, moreover, Le Drian will be meeting with a number of officials, including President Barham Saleh, Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, and UN Secretary-General’s representative in Iraq, Jeanine Plasschaert, Le Drian’s visit is for discussing several issues in the areas of health, electricity and culture promotion, and discussing the most important common challenges and opportunities for supporting Iraq.
