Iraq : Forum to promote the role of women in the communities
Kurdistan Regional Government and the United Nations of women’s rights met in Erbil on Thursday to discuss the steps to implement Security Council Resolution 1325 on strengthening the role of women in society and ensure their participation in all fields.

It was emphasized through the implementation of the national plan and the application of UN resolution despite the financial crisis roiling the country women’s organizations supporting the issue demanded the strengthening of the role of women in Iraqi society, especially for women in areas that are freed from ISIS.
It is noteworthy that women in Iraq suffer from marginalization in various aspects of life, especially the social aspect that enhance the role of women.
Yazidi women are mostly affected where thousands of women were victims of heinous crimes as they were in captivity, were sold in the slave markets in Iraqi city of Mosul and Syrian city of Raqa. Many of them are still under the control of insurgents and are not saved yet and the support programs from the society does not rise to the level of their suffering from the most heinous crimes of rape and torture.
