Iraq- Farmlands on fire in the country’s ‘breadbasket’

At the beginning of the harvest season in the Nineveh province, the spread of fires has destroyed more than 60 thousand acres.  The province of Nineveh is known as the “breadbasket of Iraq” and there are about 6 million acres of farmlands at danger of fire especially wheat and barley crops, A number of officials in the region praised the great role of the fire department to reduce the damage in Bartella agricultural lands, although they were unable to control these fires completely.  They also demanded authorities to take the necessary measures to prevent and stop these fires
