Iraq – Displaced people continue to suffer in Duhok camps for the fifth year
Sharia camp – south of Dohuk province – Kurdistan region – Iraq 08/06/2019
For the fifth year in a row, displaced people in the camps of Dahuk in northern Iraq continue to suffer from harsh living conditions. The Sharia camp south of the Dahuk governorate is no exception, especially with high temperatures and severe shortages of basic services such as water and electricity. According to the IDPs in Dohuk, the humanitarian aid in 2018 has shrunk significantly due to the deterioration of conditions in other areas which need assistance such as the areas of Tal Afar and Sinjar and some other areas in the south, and this has greatly affected the province, which includes approximately 21 camps. Displaced people and refugees demanded the NGOS and stakeholders to replace their dilapidated tents for five years and to set up caravans or concrete bases to avoid fires in the camps, in addition to providing the necessary assistance, such as water and electricity in the camps.
