Yemen – Tree leaves as means to survive dying of hunger in Hajjah
Hajjah Governorate – Yemen 12/04/2019
Citizens of poor villages in many regions of Hudaydah and Hajjah governorates in northwestern Yemen race daily to gather as many Arabian wax leaves as possible in order to survive dying of hunger and staying alive. This is a result of lack of income and inability to afford food, as well as scarcity of humanitarian aid that does not meet their needs. The citizens boil the leaves and serve them as sour green paste that causes children to have severe diarrhea. Yemen is suffering due to war from an extremely difficult humanitarian situation that ranks internationally as the worst in the 21st century.
