Yemen – Cholera death toll rises in Sanaa
Sanaa – Yemen 11/04/2019
The cholera death toll is increasingly rising in Yemen amid a major collapse witnessed by the health sector as a result of the country’s ongoing war for the 5th year in a row. The World Health Organization (WHO) has recorded 291 deaths of cholera in Yemen, and 147,927 infections accompanied with acute diarrhea since the beginning of this year, where most of the cases were reported in March, with 195 deaths and 76,152 infections. The capital Sana’a and its countryside recorded the highest number of cholera infections in Yemen, which amounted to 58 deaths. Yemeni doctors called upon the health organizations and relevant authorities to enhance their support and aid to Yemen’s health centers and hospitals, especially in rural areas, and they appealed to them to develop future strategies to help put the disease under control and prevent it from spreading throughout the region.
