Iraq – Special theater performance on the 31st anniversary of Halabja massacre

Today marks the 31st anniversary of the chemical attack on Halabja city in Kurdistan Region. On this day and as part of the 11th annual festival of Freedom and Nawroz, an event was held in coordination with Erbil artists in front of the historic Erbil Citadel. The event was participated in by the political parties of Erbil, Erbil governor, civil society organizations and a large number of citizens. The Halabja attack occurred during the last days of the Iran-Iraq war as Halabja was occupied by the Iranian army. When the Iraqi army advanced, the Iranians retreated and the Iraqi army launched a chemical attack before entering the city, which led to the killing of over 5500 Iraqi Kurdish citizens in the city.
