Yemen – Counselling session on mosques’ role in spreading awareness and educating citizens

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Ahmed al-Maysari declared that the preliminary investigations on the murder of Sheikh al-Rawi was completed and that the case file was sent with the defendants to the judiciary. He also stated that a new cell was arrested for getting involved in assassinations carried out against a number of imams of mosques, preachers, leaders and social figures. This came during the first counselling session of imams and mosque preachers in Aden and neighboring provinces, which was held under the title “Mosques’ role in spreading awareness, education and reform”. The meeting was set to encourage preachers to take responsibility for their religious and national roles by spreading awareness among the people and guide them into a life of harmony and moderation. The meeting raised a number of recommendations and called for enhancing and imposing the state’s laws in stimulating the institutions and providing the needed services and attention to mosques and those in charge of them to protect them and keep them away from sectarianism.
