Iraq – Nineveh’s preparatory Committee announces strategy to turn Nineveh province into a region

During a press conference in Erbil, Kurdistan, Nineveh’s Preparatory Committee, which constitutes of selected members of Mosul’s civil community announced its strategy to turn the province of Nineveh into a region, taking into consideration the Iraqi Constitution’s provisions on establishing regions. The Preparatory Committee have been working on for four years to complete all the legal requirements, including the 2% legal percentage of the population who are eligible to vote for turning the province into a region with Mosul as its capital. The Preparatory Committee pointed out that having independent civil elites will be a great asset for Nineveh’s growth and prosperity in the scientific and economic fields. The committee also took it upon itself to eliminate terrorism and corruption and establish stability and adopt peaceful negotiations and dialogue as a technique to overcome all the challenges and disputes with the Federal Government in Baghdad and the Kurdistan region. The Preparatory Committee filed a lawsuit at the Federal Court against the Independent Electoral Commission in Mosul, for denying the province its constitutional right to become a constitutional region.
