Iraq – Strategic matters are the priority of Pompeo’s meetings in Baghdad

Political and security analysts view the visit of US Prime Minister Mike Pompeo to Baghdad and his meetings with the Iraqi officials as consolidation of the mutual strategic agreements between the two countries. This is in light of the US having an interest in the Middle East region that Iraq is a pillar of, whether in relation to counter-terrorism or economic opportunities. Besides, this is considered a US message of commitment to supporting the security and stability of Iraq. This is simultaneous with the Iraqi Parliament’s discussion for its next session regarding US forces withdrawal from Iraq.
