Iraq – Migration and water shortages damage the agricultural sector

The agricultural sector in Iraq is suffering a significant decrease in crops and arable areas due to neglecting agriculture by both government and farmers although it used to be a main source of income few years ago. The specialists attributed the reasons for this collapse of the agricultural sector to several factors including farmers’ migration due to unprofitability, water shortage, high levels of salinity, desertification, and lack of government financial and technical support.
