Iraq – Quota and political consensus spark conflict over the presidency of the Republic

The intensity of the competition for the post of President of the Republic increased as the end of the constitutional period approaches, which gives the Iraqi parliament 30 days from the first meeting, which began earlier this month to agree on the President of the country according to quotas and political consensus. The Kurdish parties have given their names for the post where former Water Resources Minister Latif Rashid, who represents the National Union, and the deputy prime minister in the central government, Barham Saleh, have the greatest chance of taking office.
