Storyline:

Hundreds of thousands of Jordanians performed Eid al-Adha prayer in a number of mosques and places designated by the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Jordan. Mosque Khatibs (who deliver the sermon) spoke of the virtues of blessed Eid al-Adha, which comes after completing rituals of worship in the last ten days of Dhul-Hijjah and Hajj pilgrimage.

Khatibs called for visiting relatives, making amends, abandoning hatred and performing good deeds. They stressed the need to care for the poor and needy according to God’s instructions

After prayer, people wished each other well on Eid, then some went to places selling sacrificial animals to choose Eid sacrifice, an Eid ritual to draw closer to God.

Shotlist:

Soundbite (Nabila Jbara – Jordanian):

“Same as every Jordanian household, we are greeted by my uncle, who takes us to greet the next house and so on…until the whole family is gathered together.”

Soundbite (Mohammed Al-Titi – Citizen):

“Prices this year are very high, with no purchasing power, because citizens are barely able to afford food, fuel, and other basic needs. Living conditions are very difficult, we have become like fish in the sea, big fish prey on small fish.”

Soundbite (Abdullah Al-Abbadi – Jordanian):

“Prices of sacrificial animals this year are very high, last year prices were between JD 150-160, but this year price is about JD 250, which is a sharp increase.”

Soundbite (Jamal Al-Duweiri – Jordanian):

“Butchers should slaughter plenty of sacrificial animals same as every year but this year you have to stand in line and wait for a long time that could extend until next Eid. It is unacceptable.”
