In a press conference, the Kurdistan Men Union reported a dramatic spike in the number of male victims of domestic violence in 2021. Since the beginning of 2021, Iraq has witnessed roughly 521 cases of violence and 68 suicides, along with 6 homicides committed by wives against their husbands. The economic meltdown, the political instability, and the curfew imposed to limit the spread of Covid-19 were primarily behind the soaring number of men victims. In this respect, many expressed concerns that such violence may grow into a phenomenon that would threaten not only men but the whole Kurdish nation.
