Iraq- Iraqi Minister of Transport Checks on the Work Progress at Al-Faw Grand Port project
Iraqi Minister of Transport, Nasser Al-Shibli paid a field visit to check on the Al-Faw Grand Port project in the southern governorate of Basra. During which, he underlined the importance of such a port in serving the region and even the world. The minister applauded the ongoing efforts and the achievements in drilling the five main berths along with a waterway that leads to the subsea tunnels. He also pointed out that upon the arrival of two new dredgers, they will start working in the five main berths and the main harbor basin., Moreover, Iraq’s director-general at the General Company for Ports Farhan al-Fartousi illustrated that the first phase of installing breakwaters along with armored seawall was completed. From his part, deputy Ayad El-Mohammadawy indicated that efforts undertaken to implement the project are in line with the plan, under the supervision of the Italian company. It is worth mentioning that about 95 berths will be constructed up until 2032.
