Despite the technological progress that swept numerous industries and the competitive prices of manufactured rugs and carpets, diligent women in Sulaymaniyah insist on preserving the Kurdish heritage by promoting their antique handmade Kurdish rugs. The handmade Carpet and furnishings factory in Sulaymaniyah, founded in 1997, is among the oldest plants in such business. It is well-known for its eye-catching handmade rugs, adorned with folklore embroidery. However, women in the factory complained about the imported carpets and rugs that flooded the markets, not to mention that they are being sold at low prices, leaving behind their precious handmade rugs on the shelves
