Iraq – Photo Gallery on Femicide in Kurdistan
‘Life’ a photo gallery organized by FEM organization for victims of honor killings in attempt to combat violence against women in Iraqi Kurdistan, the gallery reflects the reality of Kurdish women life in a patriarchal community, despite the issuance of laws protecting women, but this did not limit crimes and violence against women in Kurdistan. The gallery included a number of pictures of women who were killed in honor killing cases, and statues that express women’s cry to society calling to stop the killing. Voices, hopes and aspirations of some women talking about the violence they have been subjected to before they had been killed were presented through internal speakers. It is noteworthy that the cases of violence and murder are increasing, as per the latest statistics recorded for the past 8 months of 2021: 10 women were killed, 41 committed suicide, 45 were burned, and 77 were sexually assaulted.
