Iraq – Iraqi Women Surpass Election’s Designated Quota

96 parliamentary seats were secured and reserved in the House of Representatives for Iraqi women candidates after the parliamentary election, and after the election commission announced the semi-final results, and recorded a 5% surpass in seats above the women’s designated quota, which is originally 25%, and thus the winning candidates won 30% of the total 329 parliamentary seats, which elicited positive reactions of women’s rights activists and media professionals, after this victory scored a success in proving women’s ability to persuade the Iraqi voter and their diligent effort to participate in decision-making process and legislation within the parliament.
