Iraq – ‘Avroman’ Iraqi City Free of Domestic Violence

Avroman region, north of Halabja Governorate in Kurdistan Region, is marked as free of domestic violence city and characterized as the calmest. With an estimated population of more than 10,000 people, Avroman is known in preserving customs and traditions that are dominated by respect and mutual cooperation between men and women at work and at home, resulted by the cultural awareness in the region and the freedom of women within the family boundaries, which was positively creating a peaceful environment in Avroman and Halabja governorate. Statistics published by the Office to Combat Violence against Women in Halabja governorate indicate that Avroman has not witnessed a single case of violence or complaint in 20 years, which distinguishes the city from the rest of Iraq.
